Malayalam disappoints at the National Awards

There is not much to cheer for Malayalam cinema this year with only a few winners from the language at the 59th National Film awards announced today.

Byari, directed by a Malayali director K P Suveeran in ‘Byari’ language spoken in Kannada coastal areas, shared the award for the best feature film along with Marathi filmDeool

Vidya Balan, who won the best actress award for her performance in Dirty Picture is a Malayali, living in Mumbai.

Actor Mallika got a special mention for her performance in Byari. Director Sherry’sAdimadhyantham also got a special mention from the jury.
The award for the best Malayalam film has been won by Ranjith’s Indian Rupee.
