I don't make films for critics: Dileep

Dileep as Mayamohini
The success of Mayamohini has added that extra zing to his smile. Talk to him for a few minutes and you can’t help being enveloped by his talk. Excerpts of a free-wheeling chat withSridevi Sreedhar

So you are on top of the world after the stupendous success of Mayamohini?
There is no top in our profession. I am on to my next film, and the cycle never ends. But yes, I’m happy that the crowds are loving Mayamohini and appreciating her antics. I want to use all this love and appreciation as fuel to put more charge into my next projects. I will continue to entertain my fans.

Did you expect such good response?
I am thankful to my audiences who have accepted Mayamohini with both their hands. Ladies are thronging the theatres and two vans full of vanitha police had to be called in to the theatres to control the crowds. It was a very special film for me and I think a lot of people connected with it. Midway through a film, you can tell where it is heading. I was confident of this one.

After Vellaripravinte Changathiand Spanish Masala which were duds, aren’t you relieved now?
I take success and failure in the same way. Failures help you grow, evolve and get a proper understanding of your art. You can’t remain centred around success.

How did the idea to play a woman evolve?
I was always carrying the idea to play a woman throughout but the story could not be developed. Luckily when I discussed it with writers Udayakrishna and Sibi K Thomas, they came up with a story idea and I loved it.
