When she is crooning, or do we say cooing, she can make any other singer feel about himself like a musical dilettante. Such is the genius of S Janaki, the gifted exponent of songs. As he turns 74 today (April 23), Janaki continues to induce joie de vivre in those who listen to her songs.
Having rendered thousands of songs in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and many other languages, Janaki is a proud recipient of four National Awards, 31 State film awards and countless other awards. Of course, for someone like her who regards singing as a divine duty, like a karmayogin, awards do not matter much.
Janaki is known for her devotional numbers as well. As a devotee of Krishna and Sai Baba of Shirdi, she has left her indelible mark on singing a number of immortal bhajans and hymns.
IndiaGlitz wishes 'The Nightingale of the South' many more years of soulful singing and a joyful birthday!
