The Ramu Karyat Film Awards for the year 2011, instituted by Manappuram Financiers and Oruma, were announced.
Urumi, directed by Santhosh Sivan, won the best film award, while Sameer Thahir's Chappa Kurisu bagged the second best film award. Superstar Mohanlal won the best actor award (Pranayam), while Kavya Madhavan won the best actress award (Gaddama).
Kamal was declared as the best director for Gaddama. Veteran actor Madhu will receive comprehensive achievement award. Jayasurya will receive special jury award for his performance in Beautiful.
Other winners: Best male playback singer is Vijay Yesudas, female playback singer is Manjari, lyricist is Rafeeq Ahmed, music director is M. Jayachandran. The awards will be given out in the first week of April in a function to be held at Thalikulam Snehatheeram in Thrissur.
