IFFK opens 'Under the Hawthorn Tree'


The screenings of the 16th edition of IFFK will officially open with the movie 'Under the Hawthorn Tree', directed by Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou famous for his movies like 'Red Sorghum'.  The movie which was featured in major film festivals alike Cannes, Venice and Berlin will have its first screening at the Nishangandhi open-air auditorium after the inaugural function of the festival on Dec 9.
This 114 minute film tells the tragic tale of a love story with political undertones set in the backdrop of the Yangtze River during the Cultural Revolution. It is basically a true love story adapted from the 2007 novel Hawthorn Tree Forever, written by Ai Mi.
