Court drama features divorced Manoj K Jayan and Urvashi

Court drama features divorced Manoj K Jayan and Urvashi

It was not a scene out of a Malayalam film but real life drama as divorced star couple Manoj K. Jayan and actress Urvasi Friday came face-to-face in a Kerala court here over the custody of their child.

Their 10-year-old daughter Kunjatta also was present and she refused to accompany her mother, which forced the family court to ask Jayan to take her back to his home.

The two stars decided to separate in 2008, after eight years of marriage.

Jayan came to the court in the morning to hand over Kunjatta to Urvasi till evening, as part of a court-ordered arrangement.

The case of custody of the stars' daughter is also being heard in the Kerala High Court. The family court is likely to give the high court a report on the developments.

Jayan told reporters that Urvasi was addicted to liquor and that he would now move the court for complete custody of his daughter.

"I don't know why that man (Jayan) is behaving like this and saying such things about me," said Urvasi, after emerging from the court.

While Urvasi continues to remain single, Jayan has re-married.

Sanjeev Sivan's next on couple's fight for dead son's semen

Sanjeev Sivan's next on couple's fight for dead son's semen
You may have heard people fighting legal battles for property or family rights, but have you ever heard of a couple fighting a case to get hold of their dead son's semen? Weird as it may sound, but this is a true story being brought to screen by filmmaker Sanjeev Sivan.

He will present the story through two films.

"I read the travails of the couple who lost their son and after a legal battle got their son's semen, which is now kept in a private hospital. I went and met them and expressed my interest in making two separate films and they agreed," Sanjeev told IANS.

Sanjeev is not new to filmdom. He comes from the celebrated 'Sivan' family - his two brothers Sangeeth and Santosh are already established names and his father Sivan is an award winning filmmaker.

The two films that Sanjeev has planned will be in two formats - one will be an out and out documentary, in which the parents act, while another will be a full length feature film with a star studded cast.

"The documentary has been titled 'In Search Of A Womb' and the shoot will start this month. We will begin shooting for yet-to-be-named feature film towards the end of the year and National Award winning actor Salim Kumar has agreed (to work in it). We are now trying for Seema Biswas and I also wish to rope in superstar Mammootty to do a cameo," said Sanjeev who directed suspense thriller "Aparichithan" in 2004.

The script is being penned by well-known scribe T.A. Razak.

The film is based on the story of Ravi Kumar, 59, a casual labourer, and his 58-year-old wife Karthiyayani from Thrissur. Their son, a sound engineering in a Bangalore institute, was diagnosed with tumour in his testes and later died. While he was being treated, doctors advised that his semen be collected and stored for further use. And that's what he did.

Ratheesh died at the age of 28 last year after contracting pneumonia.

After the son's death, when the elderly couple approached the hospital for the semen, it refused to give it to them.

The couple filed a case against the hospital. In February this year, the Lok Adalat at Kochi directed the hospital to give Ratheesh's semen to his parents.

" Ratheesh was a brilliant and talented person. I was amazed to see what he has done given his limitation. With this in mind, I spoke to Oscar award winner Resul Pookutty and he has told me to count him in for the project in any capacity," said Sanjeev.

He added that he is now committed to the couple for their needs in building a home and also for their efforts for having a surrogate child.

"Am really excited with the interests numerous people in the country and abroad have shown and are willing to cooperate with me," said Sanjeev, who just finished a short film on the security aspects at the London Olympics.

The actor has signed Vysakh's new film that has not been titled, and this film would be scripted by Benny P Nayarambalam, who had recently scripted Dileep's film 'Spanish Masala'.

Vysakh too has had his taste of success this year, with his film 'Mallu Singh' turning out to be a commercial block buster. When Dileep joins hands with Benny and Vysakh for his new film, yet another mega hit seems to be in the offing.

'Ettekaal Second' might be delayed for a while!

'Ettekaal Second' might be delayed for a while!

'Ettekaal Second' has been in the news for the unique song that the film has, that has been shot entirely underwater. The film was shot in three weeks flat and hence it had us wondering why it hasn't been released as yet.

There have been reports that the post production work of 'Ettekaal Second' has been taking much longer than expected. This was because the film was shot using three cameras simultaneously to gain time.

However this has led to a lot of delay since a whole lot of sifting has to be done to identify and select the best shots from those that have been canned. The film that stars Govind Padmasoorya in the lead role would make it to the theatres soon.

Stars are just a click away!

If television made the world know about them, the social networking sites are opening an opportunity to interact with them.
We are talking about the celebrities from Malayalam films, who are using the various social networking platforms to interact directly with their fans and perhaps using it to promote their movies in the process.
So, you have director Aashiq Abu announcing his films in his Facebook page and providing trailers, photographs, posters and updates to his ‘friends’. Aashiq has even used the page to retort to criticisms on his latest film, 22 Female Kottayam. He appealed to a popular channel to stop airing their review, which had spoilers that could affect his film’s long run at the theatres.
From Lal Jose, Deepan to Saji Surendran, directors and their team members are posting details about their projects. Even certain actors are posting their info or get them posted by their fans, on their pages.
The ‘friends’ who seems to be eagerly waiting for these posts, are mostly quick to “like” them, “share” them or to post comments, generally in favour and at times, against the posts.
Now, there is an advantage to this exercise as well.  Of late, it has been noted that the media is increasingly formulating their opinions based on these comments. The result is that the discussions in the social networking sites are getting more importance than it actually deserves.
For the eager ‘friends of celebrities’, it is an opportunity to express their opinions directly to their idols. Like it or not, the stars are just a click away.

The crew is still on the lookout for a right face to do the role of the heroine in this movie .The makers of the movie are planning to kick start the shoot of this 'Celluloid' by the month of August.

A fairly good April for Mollywood

As expected, the month of April has been extremely lucky for Mollywood. The month has created more than a couple of hits, as much of the movies released during the season brought in good number of audiences. The surprise pack of the month was definitely 'Ordinary' by Sugeeth, which continues with its heavy collections even as it is into the second month. The movie featuring Kunchakko Boban, Biju menon and Baburaj is undoubtedly the biggest hit of the year so far.

But the collection tsunami was seen for 'MayaMohini' - the new Dileep film in which the actor was appearing as a female. Directed by Jose Thomas, this movie again with Biju Menon- Baburaj team is registering houseful in almost all theatres. The movie is reported to have gathered around nine cores from its two week run.

But the movie that has emerged the dark horse seems to be Aashiq Abu's '22 Female Kottayam' . The movie with its great opening collections in the metros is sure to propel it into the status of a hit and will ensure a decent long run for the movie. Even a movie like 'Cobra' which was written off after the initial shows has managed to keep the Box Office happy. And the movie is now reported to be entering the hit status.

Arun Kumar Aravind's "Ee Adutha kalathu' was another film that celebrated fifty days run recently. The movie is also reported to be in the safe zone, as per B O status.
The coming weeks, especially the first week of May is sure to witness some other biggies in 'Grandmaster', Mallu Singh' Diamond Necklace and 'Ustad Hotel' which all will make the viewers merry with their different narrative styles and story lines. And with the coming of these movies, the winners of April are expected to settle down to average collections.

Cobra makes big money

Though all critics were in a single voice  to give a thumps down to Mamootty-Lal combo's latest "Cobra' , the most recent reports suggest that the movie has gathered more than enough to secure a safe place in the hit list. The movie which was completed in a little more than three crores is said to have made more than five crores in its run of two weeks. The movie is sure to make profits when the satellite rights will be added to its theatre collections.
Interestingly, Lal who has aggressively marketed the film even after the initial negative reviews is having the last laugh now. You are sure not to find much of the feel good stills in the posters in any part of the movie, but it has definitely made people to have a try of the movie. This 'Cobra' will also bring an end to the continuing flop parade of Mammootty films that has been ongoing from the start of last year. Megastar Mammotty needs to learn one more thing from the run of 'Cobra'- that aggressive and imaginative marketing is important for the good run of any of his movies, particularly in the current situation of new generation movies resorting to great publicity designs.

Preview: A 'Mallusingh' to celebrate Punjabi fun

Young director Vysakh has been exceptional in creating multistar movies that go well with the masses. He had been able to convert his previous two films-  'Seniors' and 'Pokkiriraja', into big hits. Now the young director is coming up with his third movie 'Mallu Singh' all set to get released this May.

One of the most expected movies of the year, this will be the one of the rare Malayali movies using that Punjabi flavor in the songs and dance sequences with its dominant colors. Featuring Unni Mukundan in the lead with the support cast of the hit gang from his seniors, including Kunchakko Boban, Biju Menon, Suraj Venjaaramoodu  and Manoj K Jayan,  the movie is planned as a fun ride with a impressive family story.

'Mallu singh' was planned with Prithviraj as the hero.. But due to clash of dates the crew has to switch over to Unni Mukundan, who appeared handsome and exceptionally talented with his initial films. The movie thus has become a test for the young actor to enter the big league. If received well at the Box Office, 'Mallu Singh' is excepted to add a new crowd pulling hero into the list of young stars in Mollywood.

Unni Mukundan appear as Hareendra Singh who is running a Dhaba at Mallustreet in Punjab. Ani(Kunchakko Boban) is a commoner from Kerala who had a history of an younger brother running away from his home, a couple of years ago following a local issue. Accidentally, Ani happens to see the visuals of Hareendra singh   in a television programme. Believing that this is his Hari, Ani sets out on a journey to Punjab to find out his closest relative.
The movie will also have a number of heroines- right from Samvrutha Sunil, Meera Nandhan, Rupa Manjari, Aparna nair and Radha Varma.  Saikumar, Siddique, Sreejith Ravi, Suresh Krishna, Jojo, Geetha, Aparna Nair, and Lakshmi Krishnamoorthy lend support as the other important characters of the movie. The movie is the first independent script by Sethu of Sachi-Sethu fame.

The music of the film has been composed by M Jayachandran, while the lyrics have been penned by Rajeev Alungal and Murugan Kattakada. The songs of the movie including that in Punjabi beats and flavours are already big hits in the FM's .The songs pictured ala Tamil songs ,choreographed by Shobin Paulraj will definitely stand out  from the rest of the regular songs in Mollywood. While Shaji is in charge of cinematography, Mahesh Narayan does the editing. Produced by Neeta Anto under the banner of Ann Mega Media, 'Mallu Singh' would grace the screens on the lucky weekend of Vysakh, that is the first weekend of May.
